Music Notes:
The Communion Antiphon (Graduale Romanum Chant Proper):
(Jer 29: 11,12,14; Ps 84) Dicit Dominus; Ego cogito
cogitationes pacis, et non afflictionis; invocabitis me,
et ego exaudiam vos; et reducam captivitatem vestram de
cunctis locis. Ps. Benedixisti Domine terram
tuam; avertisti captivitatem Iacob. (The Lord says:
"I am pondering thoughts of peace and not of affliction;
you shall call upon me, and I will hear you; and I will
bring you back from all the lands where you are held
captive." V. O Lord, you have blessed your land; you have
put an end to Jacob's captivity.)
The Offertory Antiphon (Graduale Romanum Chant Proper):
(Ps 43: 8, 9) Liberasti nos, Domine, ex affligentibus nos;
et eos qui nos oderunt, confudisti. V. In Deo laudabimur
tota die, et nomini tuo confitebimur in saecula. (You have
delivered us, Lord from those who afflict us; and you have
put to shame those who hate us. V, In God we shall take
pride all day long; and we shall celebrate your name forever.)
The Communion Antiphon (Graduale Romanum Chant Proper):
(Mk 11:24) Amen dico vobis, quidquid orantes petitis,
credite quia accipietis, et fiet vobis (Amen I say to you,
whatever you ask in your prayers, believe that you shall
receive it, and it shall be granted unto you).
Next weekend (Nov 22) is the Feast Day of Saint Cecilia,
Patroness of Music, and the day of our Quarterly (Beige Envelope)
Music Fund Collection. We thank you for your generosity which
enables us to locate, prepare, and present throughout the year
music properly suited to the Church, whether in Liturgy or in
Concert. The first of sixteen Vatican II documents, Sacrosanctum
Concilium (Dec 1963), devotes Chapter Six to Sacred Music,
re-echoing what the Church has said century after century about
the importance, qualities, purposes, of the "treasure of inestimable
value, greater even than that of any other art". We seek to attain
and uphold these high expectations.
Our next concert is Messiah Part One on Sun Dec 20 at 4 pm.
This oratorio by G F Handel is in three parts. The entire work
contains Scripture passages in English; some verses are composed
for soloist, others for chorus. Professional and semi-professional
instrumentalists (violin, viola, cello, bass, recorder, oboe,
bassoon, etc) will accompany all singing. You are invited to
attend to hear this fine music, and anyone is welcome to join
in singing the choruses (bring a score, or "rent" one of ours).
Do reserve the afternoon, and invite family, neighbors, friends,
to attend!
