John Francis Wade (1711-1786), a convert to Roman Catholicism,
is the composer of the Christmas hymn Adeste Fideles.
As a printer and calligrapher of music notation
during the underground period of the Catholic Church in England,
he produced a Psalter, a Gradual, and a Confraternity Handbook.
Zon attributes the English plainchant revival in 1737 to his work.
